Last Thursday's session was led by historian Holly. After our usual sit down and story, the children ventured into the gardens to help Trish and the other VBG gardeners with some new planting in the beds flanking the main pathway to the playpark. The kids really enjoyed getting dirty, using trowels, carrying bags, clearing up and even sweeping. We bet that doesn't happen at home!
After lunch and a run in the playpark we spent the afternoon learning about ancient Egypt. We wrote our names in Hieroglyphics, heard about their family life, made a paddle doll and learnt about pharaohs and their beliefs about the afterlife. We mummified a banana, replacing the inside with a mixture of clove, cinnamon, baking soda and salt to preserve it, an activity which was hugely popular!
